Lawrence Nault is an author and independent researcher based in Alberta's Badlands, tracking a single question across mythic fiction, adult speculative fiction, documentary film, and policy writing: who controls land, data, and resources — and who bears the consequences?
Lawrence Nault works at the intersection of fiction, independent research, documentary film, and public policy. Whether writing eco-fantasy for young readers, speculative fiction for adults, or examining the systems governing land, data, and natural resources — from farmland and energy to the physical infrastructure of artificial intelligence — he returns to the same underlying question: how does power become concentrated, and what is lost — for people, communities, animals, and the land — when public systems are built around private control?

Working from Alberta's Badlands, Nault writes from outside the institutions he examines, answerable to none of them. That distance allows him to move freely between modes: using policy to expose the machinery of power, and fiction and myth to explore the lives shaped by it.

Coverage

"There is a paradox in the identity of the reclusive author. On one hand, there is the joy and satisfaction of creating something and then the struggle of leaving that safe space and sharing your art with the world."
