Like Gaza, the acts of genocide are hidden beneath the manufactured reality we are presented with, but you don’t need to kill with guns and bombs when you can starve people out, deny them medicine, and make their very existence illegal. The methods differ, but the systematic elimination remains the same\u2014dressed up as urban planning, healthcare policy, and law and order.<\/p>\n

 Genocide Of The Poor<\/h1>\n

They draw the lines like battle
\nplans in red ink on city maps,<\/p>\n

mark neighborhoods for
\n“renewal” and “development,”<\/p>\n

while sirens wail through streets
\nthat once held families<\/p>\n

now scattered like autumn leaves
\nbefore bulldozers.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The medicine costs more than rent,<\/p>\n

the rent costs more than wages,<\/p>\n

the wages buy less than silence<\/p>\n

from those who make the rules,<\/p>\n

and food cost prayers and tears,<\/p>\n

no money to buy it.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Buses roll through midnight
\nstreets<\/p>\n

carrying the displaced to nowhere\u2014<\/p>\n

one-way tickets to forgotten
\nplaces<\/p>\n

where the forgotten go to
\ndisappear.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Unmarked vans and unmarked people<\/p>\n

appear and disappear in the
\nstreets,<\/p>\n

Tallying their kills\u2014<\/p>\n

the ones they didn\u2019t have to buy a
\nbullet for,<\/p>\n

or make an effort to relocate,<\/p>\n

because they died on their own,<\/p>\n

No medicine for the ill, <\/p>\n

no doctors for the sick,<\/p>\n

no food for the hungry, <\/p>\n

no shelter over their head,<\/p>\n

to shield them from death\u2019s scythe.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

But the wheel keeps grinding,<\/p>\n

and yesterday’s planners become
\ntomorrow’s planned,<\/p>\n

yesterday’s deciders become
\ntomorrow’s decided upon,<\/p>\n

as the hungry machine demands
\nfresh fuel.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The middle class discovers<\/p>\n

their bootstraps have been cut,<\/p>\n

their savings evaporated<\/p>\n

in the same heat that consumed the
\nothers.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Now they stand in the same lines,<\/p>\n

hold the same cardboard signs,<\/p>\n

learn the same bitter lessons:<\/p>\n

that the bottom has many floors.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The wheel keeps grinding,<\/p>\n

grinding down,<\/p>\n

grinding through<\/p>\n

every layer of society<\/p>\n

until only the grinders remain,<\/p>\n

feeding each other<\/p>\n

to their own machine.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And still it turns,<\/p>\n

this engine of elimination,<\/p>\n

creating what it destroys,<\/p>\n

destroying what it creates,<\/p>\n

an ouroboros of inequality<\/p>\n

eating its own tail<\/p>\n

in an endless feast<\/p>\n

of systematic starvation.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The last ones left<\/p>\n

will draw new lines,<\/p>\n

mark new maps,<\/p>\n

find new others<\/p>\n

to feed the grinding wheel<\/p>\n

that grinds forever<\/p>\n

in the heart<\/p>\n
